Our research is centered on understanding how microbial interactions shape community dynamics in the gastrointestinal tract. We investigate the relationships between commensal bacteria and enteric pathogens and the impacts of phages, inflammatory immune responses, and antibiotics on the microbiota and pathogens, including their interactions and gene expression. Additionally, we explore how microbial interactions, environmental factors, and interactions with the host’s mucosa influence bacterial evolution and horizontal gene transfer in the intestinal ecosystem.
