Our main interest is in bacterial pathogens and model systems, including gram negative rods and mycobacteria. Besides, we do venture into tropical medicine and highly contagious organisms of relevance such as recently SARS-CoV-2. We are also interested in Bacteriophages as tools for methods development.
Different analytical techniques are used with biosamples including culture, antibiotic susceptibility testing, imaging (fluorescence microscopy, Raman microspectroscopy, IR spectroscopy etc.), Mass Spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS and HPLC-ESI-MS/MS), sequencing and other techniques.
For clinical trials one of the main technologies used are bacterial culture and antibiotic susceptibility testing, serology, and sequencing. We also have a keen interest in pre-analytical improvements.
Our main interest is in solving problems related to infectious diseases and their diagnosis and treatment – rather than focusing on one organism or group of organisms. By that, we are interested in developing or improving methods used in these fields and to apply them for clinical trials or in study settings. We work a lot in – and in collaboration with – clinical sites and laboratories in resource-limited settings, including Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Ghana.
