We are interested in a broad spectrum of low-incidence, high-consequence pathogens and biotoxins. These agents are rarely found in nature but cause serious and sometimes fatal diseases.

How:

Our scientists investigate pathogens and biotoxins to develop and optimise diagnostic methods and therapeutic measures. The applied techniques include novel nucleic acid amplification and biochemical techniques, whole genome sequencing, combined mass spectrometry, electron and laser-scanning microscopy as well as bacteriophage approaches among others.

The goal of our research is to rapidly detect and diagnose pathogens and biotoxins to recommend suitable protective and treatment measures as well as to determine the cause and origin of an outbreak.
