Epidemiological studies nationally and internationally using innovative diagnostic methods and surveillance tools
Development of novel diagnostic, vaccines and drugs preclinically and clinically
Conduct of phase 1-4 clinical trials nationally and internationally
We have several working groups within the Tropical Institute, the Fraunhofer Immunology, Infection and Pandemic Research and the Helmholtz Munich Unit Global Health. While at the Tropical Institute, we are focused at the conduct of GCP compliant trials, both as study center in Germany or clinical sponsor of large scale global trials of several hundreds of patients, at the Fraunhofer, we focus on the preclinical development of diagnostics, vaccines and drugs, using an continuously expanding portfolio of state of the art techniques. At Helmholtz Munich, we integrate complex data analysis, both generated through trials or through routine care to better understand the spread of infectious diseases

In today’s globalized world, tropical diseases are no longer limited to the southern hemisphere, and emerging infections can spread across continents within hours. Consequently, we must enhance our surveillance, detection, and healthcare systems for tropical diseases, emerging infections, and prepare for pandemics. Moreover, it is our responsibility to ensure liveable conditions worldwide by developing effective solutions to control, prevent, diagnose, and treat poverty-related diseases.
